My Story

I first knew I wanted to be involved with costuming when as a child I was asked what I wanted to do when I grew up and I responded with "I want to make dresses for Ms Piggy." While I've yet to work with the famous star, I was able to direct my skills with art and, my love of crafting into costuming. Beginning with cosplay both for fun and for charity groups, I began to volunteer with a community theatre. I found that costume designing for theatre combined creating art with storytelling, psychology, and history,  all things that I found fascinating. I returned to college and began to pursue a degree in theatrical costume design and construction.

After Graduation I moved to Cincinnati, OH to pursue my MFA in Costume Design and Technology, I learned, patterning in addition to costume crafting techniques such as dyeing and painting, shoe rubbering, thermoplastic and EVA foam construction, and millinery. I discovered that I enjoyed creating strange and unusual pieces that take the production to the next level. Whether as a designer, an assistant, a researcher, or in costume crafting, theater, and costuming will always be my passion.

My design work includes opera, and traditional theatre. I have worked with casts ranging from three people to thirty. I have experience with modern dress and period shows, pulled shows, bought shows, and built shows. I have worked for a professional theater as well as for colleges and  worked both within a shop as well as from my own kitchen. My costume crafts work is detail oriented and focused on the needs of both the designer and the show.  No matter what challenges a show might present I strive to bring out the unique story of each with my work.
